We are in a digital era where most of the published content is consumed digitally rather than hard-copies. With this advent came several methods of digital publication delivery over the Internet. Web-based publication is one of the advanced digital delivery mechanisms that allows maximum control and customization for the digital content delivery. The two well-known web-based publication standards include DocBook and DITA.
AASHTO Web-based Publication is a web-based publication that iENGINEERING has developed using the DocBook standard for AASHTO. For this solution, the PDF content was converted into web-friendly DocBook Schema, and then published over the internet through XML to HTML transformation. It provides ability for end-users to add notes and comments against text, figures, equations and tables. They can also link publication content to external websites by adding URLs and hyperlinks. The publications system is designed to facilitate the readers by allowing them to share their notes with other licensed users. Readers can also add personal links to their notes by linking the text in the publication with external web pages or URLs.
iENGINEERING designed and developed the AASHTO Web-based Publications system and also manages all support, maintenance, and enhancement tasks for this system.
