The term collaborative authoring refers to projects where written works are created by multiple people together (collaboratively) rather than individually. This involves use of a web-based tool to create a document which can be edited by multiple members of a group.
iENGINEERING developed the ASHRAE Collaborative Authoring Portal for ASHRAE. It is an online system which is used for document collaboration between ASHRAE members. In this document collaboration system, multiple authors can work on a document, or a collection of documents, together. They can simultaneously co-author a document or review a specification as part of a structured workflow.
