AASHTO’s newest software product, AASHTO Superpave, will be unveiled Sunday at the Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board in Washington, D.C. The software was developed and distributed by iENGINEERING Corporation, a software engineering company contracted by AASHTO to provide a technological solution to help streamline volumetric mix design, production quality control, and construction quality assurance for Superpave hot-mix asphalt pavements.
Initiated under the Strategic Highway Research Program, Superpave has revolutionized the hot-mix asphalt process, gaining acceptance nationwide. While only four years ago, Superpave projects accounted for only one percent of total projects built by states. In 1999, some 50 percent of hot-mix asphalt projects performed by states nationwide utilized the Superpave standards, equaling approximately 3,200 asphalt paving projects nationwide. Today, with the unveiling of the new Superpave software, it is estimated that by 2001, 82 percent of all hot-mix asphalt projects will be designed using Superpave procedures.
iENGINEERING also deployed an e-business infrastructure for the distribution, management, and support of the AASHTO Superpave software. This e-business infrastructure includes an AASHTOWare Store for secure credit card transactions for license sales and a collaborative web site for product management and support.
